THE GUIDE

"The Guide" movie poster project was inspired by my chosen haiku by Richard Wright:
"From across the lake,
Past the black winter trees,
Faint sounds of a flute" (571)
A theme in which I extracted from the haiku, was the idea of 'Direction'. Being carried on a journey, by a leader, a light, or a guide.
The movie poster, "The Guide", conveys a film about a man (Fred Portis) who is haunted by his devastating past. Being an addict, among other things, Fred embarks on a quest to fight against his psychological pain. Fred, almost succumbing to his pains and devastation, acquaints a local woman at a pub who changes his life forever.
Basically, this film reveals a story of an addict, who is on the brink of suicide. Having the theme of "Direction", I felt it was necessary to envision this idea as a "Guide". Someone to reach out to. Thus, this story line was made.
The grainy textured background, with the grey-blue color (desaturated) and the black/grey spots were to represent Fred's pain and struggles. Almost like ember from a recent fire, these compositions provide that idea of "darkness" and "pain" in Fred's past.
